Sterling ran his number 1 ever Nextel Cup race in 1976. All the same he did non participate in the series regularly until 1983, where he was awarded a Greenhorn of the Month title.

Sterling's number one career wwithin come in his 279th career run at a 1994 Daytona 500 driving for Morgan-McClure Motorsports in the #4 Kodak car. He went in to win a Five hundred in the resulting season, becoming merely one of ternary drivers to win sequentially Daytona 500s. Sterling won 2 extra days when you took a 1995 season and finished the career high third in the point standings.

Within 2001 Chip Ganassi bought a controling interest into a team Sterling Marlin was racing for. Too when a managment vary, a previous Chevy depending team switched on top to Dodge. Dodge had returned to NASCAR that year when an extended absence & Sterling scored their number one win at Michigan International Speedway in August. He went in to score an additional triumph at Charlotte in October and equaled his better career finish in the points (third).

Marlin scored ii triumph early in the 2002 season at Las Vegas and Darlington. He lead the points standings for Xxv straight weeks prior to his championship dog was cut short by the neck injury around a crash at Kansas Speedway.

Outside of racing he enjoys watching Tennessee Volunteers football and collecting Civil War artefact. He is married to Paulthe & has the boy, Steadman (world health organization every now & again races in the Busch Series) and a girl, Sutherlin.

Marlin might leave Chip Ganassi Racing at a prevent of the 2005 year. His replacement is todays NASCAR driver David Stremme.

Marlin might move to MB2/MBV Motorsports for 2006. He may cause a #14 Chevrolet, which doesn't however have a sponsorship treat in situ.
